The Hess Center's new labs increase the research capacity of Mount Sinai by 30%. Of the 800 new jobs expected to be created by the additional research, clinical, and residential spaces, 100 of those positions will be new faculty scientists, plus 100 graduate student researchers, 125 post-docs, and 200 lab technicians. These research investigators will work closer than ever with their clinical colleagues in the Ruttenberg Treatment Center at Tisch Cancer Institute in the adjacent (and connected) tower to speed translation of research results into treatment and give scientists the insight that comes from immediate patient interaction.
The new building will include these Mt Sinai research institutes:
According to dean and unflagging helmsman of the Hess Center building project Dr. Dennis Charney, in the recent news release:
"Mount Sinai is a magnet for world-class researchers making critical contributions toward the understanding of the cause of human disease. The new building literally brings these great minds together in a shared space where they can easily brainstorm and collaborate on new ideas. We designed the building to foster communication, because new findings can come from unexpected directions."

In addition to these research areas, the facility will house the Translational and Molecular Imaging Institute and the 1st Floor, 7th Floor and 2 basement levels. 30,000sf of that space is dedicated to imaging research, and the Institute's mission is to serve as a research catalyst for a new generation of translational and molecular imaging methodologies.
