The Clinical & Translational Science Center (CTSC) headquartered at Manhattan's Weill Cornell Medical College has just received a $49.6M renewal of its 5-year grant by the NIH's National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS) in order to continue its work. Launched seven years ago, the the CTSC set out to realize the successful integration of inter-institutional resources among neighbors on York Avenue and the immediate area. The resulting cluster of New York's East Side institutions forms a unique and cohesive biomedical complex collectively dedicated to accelerating the clinical application of basic science discoveries.
Participating CTSC institutions include:
Weill Cornell is particularly well-placed to lead the way for the CTSC in the coming 5 years, as it is set to see its new 480,000sf Belfer Research Building open for basic, translational, and clinical scientists in 2014. Located on 69th Street between York and First Avenues, the building's 16 floors of program space will fully double the school's research capacity, including 13 floors devoted exclusively to laboratories. Weill Cornell estimates the new facilities will allow them to recruit 30 or more additional top scientists to their faculty. The Belfer is named for a philanthropic couple, Renée and Robert Belfer, who donated $100M to make the building a reality.
Biotechnology Calendar, Inc. welcomes laboratory research scientists from Weill Cornell and other nearby institutions to its twice-annual BioResearch Product Faire held on the neighboring Rockefeller University Campus. This event, as well as the three others we hold in New York over a four day period in the fall, bring together life scientists with laboratory equipment and supply professionals to discuss the latest developments in lab technology.
