St Louis Bioresearch Event (BRPF) Draws Hundreds of Researchers Annually

If this year's St. Louis BioResearch Product Faire™ Event (BRPF) is anything like past BRPF events, over 400 researchers from Washington University in St. Louis and the surrounding area will attend to actively seek solutions for their research challenges. When they arrive, they will find dozens of suppliers of scientific tools and equipment ready to demonstrate their products and answer their research-related questions.  This is an important gathering in the St. Louis life science community, drawing researchers from on-campus buildings, and nearby biotech and pharmaceutical companies.

Attendance this year is expected to be similar to last year's event with 150 guests hailing from these anticipated professions.

  • Professors
  • Post Doctoral Researchers
  • Laboratory Managers
  • Purchasing Agents and Professional Buyers
In addition, over 230 hands-on and bench level researchers are expected to participate from the following groups:
  • Research Associates and Research Assistants
  • Department Administrators
  • Misc. Laboratory Staff
  • Medical Laboratory Staff

Since this year's crowds are expected to surpass last year's (see photo gallery), we will expect over 250 high level researchers coming from proximal campus departments, many among the best funded in the nation. We traditionally see the most foot traffic from the following departments:

  • Biochemistry and Molecular Biology
  • Cellular Biology and Physiology
  • Internal Medicine
  • Pathology
  • Pediatrics
  • Neurology
  • Radiology
  • Surgery

Nearly 85% of last year's research professionals came specifically seeking new products for their research needs. A subset of these professionals also came with their questions, or to request product samples to test in their research programs. About 25% of the life science professionals participating in this event were there to actively compare prices for products that they already knew about and had immediate plans to purchase. 

Washington University is a top tier research university, consider these facts:
  • NSF recent ranking 10th with total R&D expenditures in life sciences at $506,555,000.
  • Recent NIH awards for Washington University of over $382.4 million in research funding, with over $357.7 million going to the Schools of Medicine.
  • The faculty of Washington University attracts more than two-thirds of all federal research dollars that come into the state of Missouri.
  • According to the Association of American Universities, WU’s federal research awards lead to approximately 12,000 jobs.
  • Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis was awarded $14.3 million in 2010 from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act to expand its genomics data center.
