Texas Medical Center (TMC) in Houston is currently the largest medical complex in the world with one of the largest biomendical building expansions.  The main campus currently contains 162 buildings and counting.  In 2007 Texas Medical Center enacted a $7.1 billion dollar capital investment plan to build new research facilities and improve upon existing buildings.  The project is expected to add 41 million square feet to TMC by 2014.

There are currently 16 building projects underway.  This includes work being done on the University of Texas Research Park, which will strive to cultivate relationships between TMC researchers and private companies.  Laboratory and office space in the research park is being designed to facilitate collaborations between researchers and industry professionals.  Texas Medical Center contributes $14 billion dollars annually to the regional economy.

On January 20, 2012, academic researchers will congregate for the 12th Annual BioResearch Product Faire™ Event at the Texas Medical Center to network with each other and see the latest laboratory products and services.  Over the past few years this event has attracted an average of 423 university researchers looking for new tools and solutions to help with their research programs.  On average, 170 of these attendees were professors, lab managers, and post docs.
