$1.8 Million in Life Science Research Funding Awarded to Texas A&M

Texas A&M researchers recently received $1.8 million in life science research funding from the NIH. The project receiving funding, titled “Structure-Based Discovery of Critical Vulnerabilities of Microbacteria,” will be led by James Sacchettini, PhD. According to Texas A&M University, Dr. Sacchettini is a professor of biochemistry, chemistry and biophysics. His research interests are using X-ray crystallography to better understand the relationship between proteins and ligands. The NIH RePORTER provides more insight intothe project receiving life science research funding this year:

“The overall mission of the TB Structural Genomics Consortium is to determine the three-dimensional structures of proteins from M. tuberculosis (Mtb), prioritized by their relevance for drug discovery. Mtb, the causative agent of tuberculosis, remains a major-health threat worldwide, and structural information on relevant proteins is critically needed to support future drug discovery. Our Program Project focuses not only on solving structures of proteins in vulnerable pathways, but also complexes of drug targets with inhibitors bound, which will yield important insights about active-site interactions for drug design. Each of the four projects has chosen to focus on targets and processes that are essential to survival in the host.”

Lab suppliers hoping to meet researchers at universities where there is a great deal of life science research funding available will find that Texas A&M University is an attractive market. In 2012, the university received $42.2 million from the NIH. In addition to receiving research funding from the NIH, Texas A&M University also received $15.8 million from the NSF in 2012. Given the latest life science research funding statistics, it’s evident that Texas A&M University is a great market for lab suppliers interested in meeting researchers at life science marketing events. If you are a lab supplier interested in networking with others in your field and marketing your life science equipment at Texas A&M University, Biotechnology Calendar, Inc. invites you to attend our annual College Station BioResearch Product Faire™ Event held on the Texas A&M University campus. Last year, the College Station BioResearch Product Faire™ Event attracted 128 attendees. Of those who came, 22 were purchasing agents, professors and post docs, and 18 were lab managers. The attendees came from 33 different research buildings and 36 departments across campus. Biotechnology Calendar, Inc. life science marketing events are the most convenient way of meeting a large number of researchers interested in learning about new lab products.

Biotechnology Calendar, Inc. is a full-service science research marketing and events-planning company that organizes life science marketing events at top research institutions across the country. If you are interested in networking with researchers and marketing your lab equipment at life science marketing events closer to home, we encourage you to view our 2013 calendar of events.
