New Medical Facility Opens at the University of Pennsylvania

Written by Jennifer Nieuwkerk | Tue, Sep 24, 2013

The University of Pennsylvania recently celebrated the completion of one of its most successful fundraising projects in history when Penn Medicine Washington Square opened on Thursday. The new facility is 153,000 square feet and located in Center City Philadelphia. It was designed with environmentalism in mind, which is evidenced by the greenery growing on the building’s roof. The building will serve as an outpatient care facility for Pennsylvania Hospital.

“Penn Medicine Washington Square facilitates and enhances collaboration—especially among services dispersed across the Pennsylvania Hospital campus—by uniting clinical offices and over 100 physicians previously spread across seven different buildings,” reports the University of Pennsylvania Almanac. “This exciting new expansion of Pennsylvania Hospital has come about through the partnership of Penn Medicine with the City of Philadelphia and Liberty Property Trust, the Malvern-based real estate investment trust and developer of the Walnut Towers property.”

According to the Penn Medicine website, the new facility will provide care in areas such as cardiology, endocrinology, maternal fetal medicine, otorhinolaryngology (ear, nose and throat), primary care, surgery, urology and women’s health. The facility will specialize in interdisciplinary care and outstanding patient experience.
