EMBO Workshop: 'Oocyte Maturation and Fertilization: Lessons from Canonical and Emerging Models'

Workshop - Banyuls-sur-mer, France

How oocytes are created, mature to a fertilizable egg and how sperm trigger resumption of embryonic development at the moment of fertilization are questions that have intrigued scientists of different fields for over a century. But these essential steps of the reproduction process are also an important issue for medical research. During this meeting our objectives are twofold: bring together the fertilization and oocyte maturation communities which up until now had separate meetings, and bring together researchers who work on a wide range of organisms spanning the Eumetazoa to compare mechanisms controlling reproduction in order to identify
