From a soft matter/biophysics perspective tissues can be modeled as biologically active matter, made of cells, capable of exerting forces and responding to stresses.
This Durham University Centre for Soft Matter workshop aims to provide an overview for both physicists and biologists about the state of the art of research on tissue mechanics.
Topics of discussion in the workshop will include:
How do we understand the collective behaviour of cells that make up a tissue using mathematical modelling guided by experiments?
How can specific tissue mechanical response be addressed in simple models?
Can abnormal cell division leading to cancer be modelled mathematically aided by experiments?
