12th International Symposium on Myelodysplastic Syndromes (MDS)

Exhibition, Symposium - Berlin, Germany

Myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) are a group of blood disorders where the balance of healthy blood cells in the body is disrupted. They are sometimes called bone marrow disorders.

The Myelodysplastic Syndromes Foundation was established by an international group of physicians and researchers to provide an ongoing exchange of information relating to MDS. To date, it has run eight international symposia in Austria, England, the United States, Spain, Czech Republic, Sweden, France, Japan, Italy and Greece.

The group's international network provides patients with referrals to Centres of Excellence, offers contact names for available clinical trials, enables physicians to share new research and treatment options, and extends educational support to both physicians and patients. In addition, the foundation has established patient advocacy groups, research funding, and physician education.

The 2013 meeting will showcase updates on evidenced-based research and management of MDS. Over 1600 professionals are expected to attend from the field of haematology. The scientific program is designed to meet the aims of The MDS Foundation, which are to provide an ongoing exchange of information relating to MDS. The format will include plenary sessions (including a nursing symposium), debates, case-based discussion, topical workshops, oral and poster presentations. It will promote the clinical application of existing knowledge and the acquisition of new knowledge by bringing together clinicians, scientists and educators from around the world.
