Next Generation Plant Breeding

Conference - Netherlands

100 years ago in 1912 the Institute for Breeding of Field Crops was established as a unit of the State College for Agriculture, Horticulture and Silviculture (the predecessor of the Wageningen Agricultural University which is nowadays known as Wageningen University, part of Wageningen University and Research centre). Shortly after the name was changed in Instititute for Plant Breeding (IvP), and in 1997 in Laboratory of Plant Breeding. In 2005 the Laboratory of Plant Breeding merged with the PRI Business Biodiversity and Breeding of the Unit DLO institute Plant Research International to form the expertise group Wageningen UR Plant Breeding.
At the 100th anniversary of Plant Breeding in Wageningen, the science of breeding has highly contributed to higher and stable crop yields world-wide. The challenge of providing a growing world population with food, feed and fuel however requires the breeding society to take even bigger steps. The Next Generation Plant Breeders will need to utilize new technologies and techniques, and make optimal use of the enormous amounts of genotypic and phenotypic data produced by Next Generation technologies. At its centennial birthday Wageningen UR Plant Breeding invites you to participate in a conference that explores novel and exciting opportunities for crop improvement for the Next Generation of Plant Breeders.
