UW Neuroscience and Engineering Research Center Awarded $18.5M by NSF

The NSF has just announced funding for a new program to establish four Engineering Research Centers (ERCs) with over $70M in grants.  One of the four universities chosen to participate in the program is the University of Washington, which will receive $18.5M over the next five years for its ERC for Sensorimotor Neural Engineering (ERC/SNE).  Researchers will be designing and testing devices to restore or augment the body's capabilities for sensation and movement.  UW's Neurobotics Lab will take a lead in the ERC/SNE, along with biologists and scientists focused on human health.

New Building at UW to Provide New Lab Research Facilities

Construction has begun for the third phase of UW Medicine’s research hub in Seattle’s South Lake Union neighborhood. This new building project is part of a major expansion of UW Medicine's research facilities by the development company Vulcan Real Estate.

Stem Cell Research Funding at University of Washington Ranks High

The stem cell research programs University of Washington have received $24.6 million in new stem cell research funding from the National Institutes of Health (FY 2010 and 2011 to date). UW ranks 6th in the nation for total stem cell funding in this period behind several leading research universities including Stanford, University of Pennsylvania, and UC San Francisco (to read more on UCSF stem cell research see our UCSF blog).
