UPenn Receives $22.6M for Materials Science Research

University of Pennsylvania, PhiladelphiaResearchers within the Laboratory for Research on the Structure of Matter (LRSM) at the University of Pennsylvania have been conducting breakthroughs in the field of materials science since it opened in 1961. A leading center within the LRSM that helps with this breakthrough research, the NSF Materials Research Science and Engineering Center (MRSEC), was recently awarded a $22.6 million grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF) that will support materials research at UPenn over the next six years. U.Wisconsin Researchers Develop New Material to Separate Oil from Water

Lake SuperiorThe Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill that occurred in the Gulf of Mexico in 2010 spilled 4.9 million barrels of oil into the Gulf, causing tremendous impacts to the ecosystem. The Exxon Valdez Oil Spill in the Prince William Sound in 1989 also had a tremendous impact on the environment. $17.8 Million Awarded to the University of Minnesota to Support Materials Research Center
