Texas Researchers Receive $5.7M to Further Cancer Research

 tamucampus1.jpgThe state of Texas is striving to increase cancer research capabilities and opportunities with the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT). One method that CPRIT uses to increase cancer research opportunities throughout the state is through the institutes core facility support awards, which provide more funding and opportunities for researchers from different Texas institutions. Recently, researchers from Texas A&M University received a $5.7 million grant from CPRIT to expand cancer research at the university through this additional core facility funding. Two New Medical Buildings Under Construction at University of Cincinnati

University of Cincinnati’s Medical Campus Master Plan entered its second phase with the start of construction on two new buildings. The Health Sciences Building will become the new home of the University’s College of Allied Health. The other new building will house the UC Gardner Neuroscience Institute. The construction is part of a $480 million project aimed to keep the university on the cutting edge of education, medical care, and research.

USC Receives $19M for BRAIN Initiative Study

In 2013, president Barack Obama initiated a public-private partnership - the BRAIN Initiative - to provide more funding and opportunities for institutions and organizations to study the human brain. This project is led by the National Institutes of Health and includes a new five-year collaborative project, the BRAIN Initiative Cell Census Network consortium that is aiming to identify all cells in a mouse brain to create a catalog of these cells.

Harvard Medical School, with facilities in the Longwood are aof Boston, is the third oldest medical school in the United States, founded in 1782, and is home to more than 700 students in the M.D. program, more than 140 in the D.M.D program, 556 in the Ph.D. program, and 155 in the M.D.‑Ph.D. program. Harvard Medical School is also affiliated with several teaching hospitals: the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, the Brigham and Women’s Hospital and the Massachusetts General Hospital.

The Longwood Medical Area is known as one of the most prestigious educational, medical and research areas in the United States. Located along Longwood Avenue in Boston, Massachusetts, Longwood Medical Area (LMA) is made up of teaching hospitals, medical facilities, and non-medical facilities; as well as some top educational institutes, such as Harvard Medical School.

Thousands of people arediagnosed with traumatic brain injuries (TBI) each year,stemming from different head impacts. The National Institute on Disability, Independent Living, and Rehabilitation Research (NIDILRR) awards 16 US institutions a TBI Model System grant each year to provide researchers and clinicians more opportunities to study these injuries.

UPitt Establishing Comprehensive Ovarian Biology Research Institute with Assistance from $3M Grant

Ovary Researchers from science institutions around the world study different forms of cancer, to gain better understandings of the diseases to assist with the development of new treatment methods. One of these cancers that is continuously being studied is ovarian cancer, which effects 1 in 75 women, according to the American Cancer Society. Washington University Receives $46M to Support Translational Research

The ICTS at Washington University focuses on translating discoveries from both translation and clinical research into new treatments and therapies. The ICTS does not focus on just one area of life science research. Instead, researchers from all spectrums on the health sciences are able to use the institutes resources to further their work on topics like disease prevention and treatment. UPenn Receives $22.6M for Materials Science Research

University of California Strengthens Cancer Research with Creation of New 5-School Consortium
