The LASA has been striving to educate its members on the recent developments in the field of lab animal science.It has also been providing the members an opportunity to interact with experts in the field from all over the world by inviting experts from the AALAS, FELASA, ICLAS, AAALAC and other organizations. Efforts are already in fruition with the registration of the new Journal, ‘Research Animals’, and the commencement of the first ever FELASA ‘C’ training program in India. A further step in the direction has been taken and now LASA has become a Global Partner with AALAS. However, a lot needs to be done to improve the quality of animals as well as the quality of research. The introduction of the “ARRIVE” guidelines in England and its acceptance among the publishers all over the world, besides the increasing efforts of ICLAS and other International Organizations in Harmonization of guidelines is compelling the Indian scientific fraternity to revisit the issues. The recession created lull in drug discovery now appears to be waning off with the USFDA’s nod to research on New Drug Applications. It appears as though the CRO’s would be back in business, but a ‘word of caution’, Quality of animals and Quality of research would now become the priority area. Therefore, we appeal to all the scientific fraternity to join us in this conference to discuss the issues and formulate strategies towards achieving accreditations and International Acceptance of our data.
