Molecular Neurology and Therapeutics: Wellcome Trust Course

Posted on Jul 4, 2014 3:08:00 PM

Course - Hinxton, Cambridge, United Kingdom

This popular course provides a concentrated examination of the molecular basis of neurological diseases and strategies being developed for their treatment. The course is held at the Wellcome Trust Conference Centre at Hinxton, England. Twenty course participants are selected among a pool of applicants from basic research, translational research or clinical research backgrounds and at various stages of training. The small group size and the availability of the faculty participants for the duration of the course make for an exceptional learning environment.

The course curriculum offers a unique opportunity to learn the latest concepts associated with the study of both rare and common neurological disorders such as Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, Huntington's disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, stroke, the ataxias, Fragile X syndrome and others. Participants will discuss in detail the strengths and weaknesses of the experimental evidence underlying our current understanding of these diseases and how this knowledge is being applied to develop small molecule and nucleic acid based therapies.

Course participants will have an opportunity to share their work with faculty and other trainees, as well as enjoy meals, recreational events and informal discussions throughout the 5-day session.
