2013 Life Science R & D Expenditures Ranking: 30th Ranked = $403,845,000 [1]

2014 NIH Funding: $150,649,803 [2]

The University of Maryland Baltimore began constructing a new $305.4 million School of Medicine Research Building in 2013 that is expected to be completed in 2017. [3]

UMB School of Medicine and Advanced Particle Therapy have been constructing a $200 million Proton Therapy Cancer Treatment Center expected to open at UMB in 2015. [4]

UMB Center for Vaccine Development renewed their contract with the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease giving them the potential to receive funding estimated to be up to $135 million annually over a seven-year period for vaccine research. [5]

The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases awarded the UMB Institute for Genome Sciences a 5 year grant of $15.2 million to create a center to study pathogens and their hosts using genomic techniques. [6]

A $10.7 million 5 year grant from the National Institutes of Health was awarded to UMB School of Medicine to study the causes of and new treatments for schizophrenia. [7]

The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases awarded a 5 year $10.7 million grant to the UMB Schools of Medicine and Dentistry to study the causes, prevention and treatments of STD's. [8]

UMB School of Pharmacy has joined a 5 year $6 million collaboration with MedImmune for biopharmaceutical research. [9]

UMB School of Medicine received a $3.7 million 4 year grant from the NIH to develop personalized medicine programs to diagnose and treat monogenic diabetes. [10]

Two grants, totaling $1 million renewable for up to 5 years from the FDA were awarded to a researcher in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences for research on transdermal and topical drug delivery. [11]

A University of Maryland Law graduate was appointed to the Supreme Court in 2015 [12]
