2013 Life Science R & D Expenditures: 15th Ranked = $589,526,000 [1]

2014 NIH Funding: $441,221,637 [2]

Columbia University recently received a $200 million donation for the construction of the new Zuckerman Mind Brain Behavior Institute expected to open in 2016. [3]

Columbia University received a $25 million 3 year gift to the Medical Center towards a New Initiative for Treatment of ALS. A feature of the new consortium is the Target ALS Core Facilities which will provide ALS investigators with access to key technologies that are too complex or costly to set up in each individual laboratory. [4]

Columbia University Medical Center Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center received an $18 million 5 year Cancer Center Support Grant from the NCI. [5]

Researchers at Columbia University received a four year $12.6 million grant from the NIH to study rare genetic variants that can either protect against or contribute to the risk of Alzheimer's disease. [6]

The Weinberg family gave more than $7 million to Columbia University to help establish the Weinberg Family Cerebral Palsy Center at Columbia University Medical Center (CUMC). [7]

Columbia University Medical Center will take part in a 5 year $40 million NIH funded initiative to reduce stroke risk in minority communities. [8]

Columbia University Medical Center's Yaakov Stern of the Departments of Neurology, Psychiatry and Psychology Sergievsky Center and Taub Institute, has received awards from the National Institute on Aging: $5 million over five years for “Exploring Cognitive Aging Using Reference Ability Neural Networks,” $4 million over five years for “Predictors of Severity in Alzheimer’s Disease,” and $3.7 million over five years for “Imaging of Cognition, Learning and Memory in Aging.” [9]

Columbia University Medical Center's Michael Shen, PhD of the Departments of Medicine and Genetics & Development and the Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center received a five-year $6.9 million grant from the National Cancer Institute for a study titled “Molecular Mechanisms of Prostate Cancer Initiation.” [10]

The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases awarded research lab scientists at Columbia University $6.3 million in research funding for Columbia’s Center for Research in Diagnostics and Discovery. [11]

Columbia University Medical Center's Ramon Parsons, of the Department of Pathology and Cell Biology and Institute for Cancer Genetics, received a three-year, $3.7 million from the National Cancer Institute for a study regarding the “Molecular Pathogenesis of Basal-like Breast Cancer.” [12]
