2013 Life Science R & D Expenditures: 46th Ranked = $273,493,000 [1]

2014 NIH Funding: $118,550,061 [2]

The University of Illinois, Chicago is in the process of building a new $104 million new science and technology building. Construction is to begin in the spring of 2013 and is expected to take 30 months. [3]

UI Chicago has over $335 million worth of research expenditures and regularly ranks within the top 50 US institutes for research expenditures. [4]

In 2013, the National Science Foundation awarded the University of Illinois, Chicago $18.5 million in science research funding. [5]

The $6.5 million pledge from Richard S. and Loan B. Hill to the department of bioengineering, housed in the colleges of Engineering and Medicine, brings the couple’s total giving to UIC to nearly $9 million. [6]

The University of Illinois Center for Narcolepsy, Sleep and Health Research, received a $5 million three-year grant to determine whether a cannabinoid drug is able to reduce sleep apnea and protect against diseases linked to it. [7]

In 2013, the Center for Clinical and Translational Science at the University of Illinois, Chicago received a $3.2 million grant from the National Institutes of Health. [8]

The University of Chicago recently received a $3.2 million grant to help low-income children breathe better [9]

In 2013, researchers at the University of Illinois, Chicago received a $2.7 million grant from the National Institutes of Health to study integrated mechanisms of cardiac maladaptation. [10]

The National Institutes of Health gave researchers at the University of Illinois, Chicago a $2.4 million grant for a study of cytoskeletal regulation of lung endothelial pathobiolgy in 2012. [11]

NIH awards $2 million to study signaling of endothelial permeability and lung vascular injury. [12]

NIH awards almost $2 million to study APOE Receptor Biology and Neurodegeneration. [13]

NIH awards $1.6 million to study causes of visual impairment for Asian Americans. [14]

The University of Illinois at Chicago received a $1.4 million grant to research the dynamics of DNA bending. [15]
