2012 Life Science R & D Expenditures: 76th Ranked = $166,791,000 [1]

2013 NIH Funding: 174th ranked = $20,614,749 [2]

Washington State University has endowment assets worth $476 million. [3]

$52.9 million funding is being awarded through the 2013-15 Capital Budget Proposed Substitute House Bill 1089 for the Clean Technology Laboratory at Washington State University. [4]

Northwest Advanced Renewable Alliance, led by Washington State University, received a $40 million grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture for the development of aviation biofuels and petrochemical substitutes. [5]

Washington State University recently completed the new Veterinary and Biomedical Research Building. This building will house the Integrative Physiology and Neuroscience department (IPN). IPN's research expenditures for the last three years total some $18.2 million dedicated to investigations in diabetes and obesity, emotional health, sleep and circadian rhythms, neurological diseases, heart health and drug addiction. Washington State University is leading a $16.2 million effort to develop wheat varieties that are better at tolerating the high temperatures found in most of the world’s growing regions - temperatures that are likely to increase with global warming. The research will be supported by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). [7]

Washington State University received a $2.5 million grant from the National Institutes of Health to conduct a new national clinical trial studying medications for the treatment of type 2 diabetes. [8]

Grant D. Trobridge of Washington State University has received a $1.6 million grant from the National Institutes of Health to continue investigating the use of gene therapy for HIV and AIDS. [9]

Washington State University received a $1.6 million grant from the National Institutes of Health to research the process of cell repair. [10]

Washington State University received $1.18 million worth of grants from the Health Sciences and Services Authority to help recruit two highly successful researchers for the university's College of Pharmacy and fund critically needed laboratory equipment at the Spokane campus. [11]

The National Institutes of Health recently awarded a $743,974 grant to Washington State University professor K. Michael Gibsonto study an experimental drug’s effectiveness on an inherited disorder with characteristics of autism and epilepsy. [12]
