2013 Life Science R & D Expenditures: 112th Ranked = $71,643,000 [1]

2014 NIH Funding: $57,549,168 [2]

In 2013, UT Austin received a total of $634 million in external research grants. [3]

The Seton Healthcare Family is building a $295 million teaching hospital on the UT Austin campus that will be called the Seton Medical Center at The University of Texas across the street from the Dell Medical School. The Dell Medical School will welcome its first class of students in July 2016 and the hospital will begin operations in 2017. [4]

The LIVESTRONG Foundation donated $50 million to the Dell Medical School. [5]

The University of Texas Board of Regents recently voted to give $30 million annually for eight years and $25 million annually thereafter to create a medical school in Austin. [6]

Research at The University of Texas, Austin takes place at more than 150 research units and includes facilities such as the Center for Nano and Molecular Science and Technology, as well as those serving the areas of Computational Engineering and Sciences, and the Department of Biomedical Engineering. [7]

UT Austin is part of a $17 million collaboration to study and combat traumatic brain injuries. [8]

$12M was awarded to the UT Austin by the US Department of Energy to curtail Greenhouse gas emissions. [9]

The University of Texas, Austin receives the second highest amount of Federal Research grants for universities without a medical school (the first is MIT). [10]

UT Austin has started construction on a brand new Dell Medical Building, which is to be finished by 2016. [11]

NIH awarded UT Austin $3.3 million to study the neural basis of language development in children. [12]

The UT Austin School of Nursing received $2.4 million from the NIH to establish a new collaborative research center designed to improve the health of individuals, families, and communities. [13]

Howard Hughes Medical Institute awarded $2.4M to UT Austin to expand the Freshman Research Initiative Program. [14]
